The
Urban Hippie
offering collateral in a wide variety of
mediums, specializing in identity and brand design. I have
been working under the title, “Urban
Hippie” since January of 2004, but have held the nickname
for quite a few years. The name was given to by my best friend
and is attributed to my “Hippie-esque” life style;
loving the outdoors, reggae music and wearing tie-die. I believe
in peace and unity, and this does not only apply to mankind,
it is necessary in design. Design must be beautiful, functional
and powerful; bad design will cost you, good design will last.
I grew up in an urban atmosphere building, parks, etc. I am hip
to the mainstream lifestyle, I live it every day, however in
my mind I hold strict values and to maintain a perfect calm.
I have been known to put on an occasional Grateful Dead album
or listen to some reggae, so does that make me a Hippie? I guess
so, but when a hippie turns business man he becomes an Urban
Hippie.
My
Qualifications,
I
was formally trained as a Print Designer, with a specialization
in Brand and Identity Design, at Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design.
My pursuit of design began as a child artist, I painted, sculpted
and would hand illustrate drawings. I formally started my Graphic
Design training my junior year of high school. From there I moved
on to further my education at Rocky Mountain, where I was privileged
to work under some amazing Designers. With their help and guidance
I was able to build my knowledge and put myself where I am today.
Knowing the history and understanding the concept of design is
only part of what it takes to be a good designer. Knowing the hardware
of a computer enables me to know the capabilities of a machine,
allowing me to operate a computer to it’s fullest potential.
Additionally I am extremely knowledgeable in Macintosh operating
systems, ranging from Mac Classic 7.2 all of the way through
Mac OSX Tiger 10.4 (beta-release). This gives me the ability
to maneuver gracefully through the operating systems and make
any modifications or repairs necessary. Just as software is continually
changing and newer versions are released, I am regularly updating
my knowledge to keep my skills current as well. I have extensive
knowledge of Adobe, Apple, Macromedia, Microsoft, Quark and Macintosh
OSX Server products. Additionally I pride myself on my capability
to think analytically, which enables me to learn new software
and hardware quickly and proficiently, tutoring myself the whole
way through.
